Our smartphones are critical to us in so many ways. We rely on them to keep us on task, remind us to pick up Timmy from soccer, and send a message of good luck to our BFF on her first day at a new job. At conferences, they hold our mobile event apps and keep us connected and engaged to the event itself and the other users. They help us leverage technology to make sure we get the most out of our attendance and don’t miss a bit of important information.
A valuable tool to send out a mass message within your mobile event app is a Push Notification. These are free messages sent out to all users via the event app software. They can be done on the fly in real – time. They can be used to send out simple reminders to complete surveys or make a quick announcement on a room change due to weather.
We recently attended an event where the hosts utilized their push notifications to rouse up a buzz at their booth in the main exhibit hall. Noticing a lack of attendance, they sent out a quick reminder that a raffle was going on in the exhibit hall. The response was great – the messages worked! Soon the exhibit hall was packed with attendees visiting with the exhibitors and making deals. One sponsor equated the push notifications to a megaphone across the resort – calling all attendees loud & clear.
